Background story: During my BA (Hons) Fashion final year project, we had a chance to collaborate with typography designers to come up with an outfit together.
Brief: I was tasked to design an outfit by combining my own research and typography designer’s work. It was a nice fit as the typography designer was designing the font based on Japanese culture influence as well.
Approach: I took her typography font, extract the shapes and developed the fonts into a repeated print in black and white variations. I then produced a coat using the prints that has been developed based on the font. and displayed the work at the exhibition.
Challenge & Solution: The biggest challenge of this project is to find a way for both our projects to work together as one, and fortunately the fonts delivers the ambient of Japanese culture/ folklore and successfully blended well with the silhouette of my coat design.
