Background story: This is a series of made to measure orders from my clients, while I was working as a designer in boutique IIJYN.

Brief: I was tasked to brainstorm and help customers design a custom made outfit for their events, provide them styling advice, such as helping them to select a colour that suits them, source materials for their outfit, and select accessories that suits the outfit.

Approach: When designing for custom made designs, I always try to understand my clients as much as possible, for example what is the occasion that my client is going to, what is their favourite design and why, what is their favourite colour and etc. It is very important to first understand their needs before i start designing and providing suggestions that I feel suits them, this way it will be more efficient and the progress will go on smoothly. After discussions and finalising the design, I will then source the fabrics and necessary materials needed for the dress making. I will usually make the first prototype and allow the customer to do a fitting to ensure 90% of the details are accurate and make necessary adjustments at this stage. And then we would final fit again when the product is complete.

Challenge & Solution: The biggest challenge for made to measure is that there are a lot of discussions and confirmations involved in the process, and I have to make sure all the details are taken care of, and the customer’s request is being processed accurately.
